I’ve had a few occasions lately where my GDO Blaq reports, through Home Assistant (and passed along through Homekit Bridge to Apple Home), that my garage door opened in the middle of the night and then closed again.
These are just events though; the door itself did not open and then just as quickly close again. You can see from the attached screenshot that these event pairs happen within one second of each other. Last night I had two pairs of such events, one at 1:48am and another at 4:11am. I assure you I was not manually opening the garage at these times and I have no automations that would run then either.
I’m aware of the thread which discusses some bad interactions between Security+ wall buttons and the Blaq which causes the door to unexpectedly open. While that sounds pretty similar to my issue, the difference in my case is that the door doesn’t physically budge.
I have a spare garage door tilt sensor which I could install, if it’s possible for me to override the opened/closed state which Blaq itself considers to be true.
The problem is the 935CB wall button. There’s an older generation of wall buttons that are problematic, and this is one. You can test it by removing the wall button completely, the blaQ should then work normally.
You can fix it by replacing with the 889LM wall button.
No it’s not possible to override the garage state with a physical sensor.
Both exhibited this behavior, and I initially thought it was just enough wind blowing on the garage door, moving it enough to turn the motor fractionally and make it think it was opening.
Rather than get a new 889LM or similar, my plan is to try out a Bilresa button from IKEA. My Thread border router is quite close to where I would locate this button. Part of this plan is to disconnect the wall button’s wires up at the motor. Assuming this setup works reliably I may then choose to remove the wall button and its 15 feet of physical wiring altogether.
Hopefully I don’t cause this thread to devolve into a discussion on the merits (or lack thereof) of Matter!
