Incorrect Door Timings

I’ve recently installed the GDO Blaq on my garage door opener and noticed that in spite of multiple attempts at resetting the timings, it appears to always report the door as being relatively far from the real status. When closing the door, the status will report 99% closed when the door is only ~50% closed, it then just switches to showing “Closing” until the door fully closes. This is most obviously an issue when a partial open is demanded, in which case if I ask the door to open 50%, the status reported by the GDO is usually ~92% when the door stops moving (at physically around 50%).

As an aside, it appears that my garage door considers the “STOP” command as a request to reverse direction when moving in the closing direction, leading to a partial-open request causing the door to go back to being fully open if the door was already open. This could probably be solved by simply sending the STOP command again with a delay, similar to the logic that’s implemented for closing the door when it was already CLOSING.

Since there doesn’t appear to be a lot of interest in this fix, is there any chance that the firmware for this is open source in any way that would allow me to make the necessary fixes myself?

hi @brett19, the firmware is indeed open-source:

If you can provide some more details to be able to reproduce this and if there are any others reporting similar problems then we can look into it. If you find a way to fix it for you, let me know. You can also open an issue on our Github with additional details if you end up digging into it.

What colour is the learn button on your garage door opener, and what Security+ is it set to?

I had this on my Security+ 1.0 GDO, with the GDO blaQ being set to Auto Detect. I HAD to manually set it to Security+ 1.0 before it would start behaving properly.

Nate, Howard D. here. The GDO Blaq I just installed on one of my doors exhibits this same behavior when trying to close to a partially open position. When it gets to that position it stops and then reverses. From a closed position it stops at the partially open position correctly. Other than that everything is working correctly. I am seeing the light and lock button not functioning now on the wall control. I read about the issue with older analog controls and went ahead and ordered two 889LMMC door panels for replacement. I also just placed an order on your site for a second GDO Blaq for my second door. I have LIftmasters with purple learn button. I’m using Smartthings for control. The Konected app settings show I’m using security+ 1.0.

Thanks.

I think the door closing, stopping part-way, and auto-reversing might be a safety feature or limitation of some models. @Sprague can you try this test for me – try manually closing the garage door using the wall button, then press the wall button again when it is halfway closed. Does it stop? Or immediately auto-reverse and go back up?

Yes, that seems to be it. It does the same thing when using the wall control. I just installed new 889lm wall controls and that solves the issue with the lock and light function. As soon as I receive the GDO Blaq for my second door I’ll test that as well. Thanks. Howard.

It does look like the library that manages the door has logic to try to deal with these scenarios, it just doesn’t appear to work with some doors:
