I connected to the Blaq wifi connections and configured it to connect. After it rebooted, the app does not find it. Is there a factory reset option? The second Blaq connected without issue using the app.
TIA

There is a factory reset button (in software) on the device’s internal web-page. You should be able to find its IP address in your router, go to the IP in your browser, and use the internal controls there.
The alternative is to physically re-flash it with a USB cable via https://install.konnected.io
Perfect, that was easy lol. Thank you!
Here’s a feature request for a future hardware revision. There needs to be a factory reset button.
While installing my blaQ something happened with the Wi-Fi setup that left me in a can’t go forward, can’t go back state. The setup did not complete the changeover to my home network, and the Konnected network was still broadcasting. However, no device could join that. I received “cannot join” and temporarily unavailable “ errors.
The solution was to (nervously) download and install drivers from China, get the USB serial connection going (very 1990’s) and reflash the device.
I knew how to do all this, but it was a major hassle and time suck, and even technically adept consumers might have problems accomplishing it.
Having a reset button, or power sequence, like every other home automation product I’ve ever seen, would have been much more preferable.
And, my biggest issue was not the hassle it was downloading and installing something from China. If you’re going to require the drivers to use the product hosting the on your site would be better.
Thanks for considering this.
The GDO blaQ doesn’t need any drivers to access via USB. It’s using the newer JTAG serial interface which should be automatically supported on all platforms. This newer built-in serial interface is going to be our standard going forward because it’s simpler and well-supported by Espressif (the chip-maker). The older USB-serial interface on the Alarm Panel Pro and GDO White use a driver from Silicon Labs.
So, you can un-install the Chinese driver. Where did you find a link to that? I will update our documentation so to avoid confusion in the future.
By the way, the WiFi captive portal bug that you encountered was just fixed upstream. The fix is included in ESPHome 2024.6.0 and newer, so we shouldn’t see this problem again after the next update.
That said, it’s not a bad idea to have a physical reset method, too.
Hi Nate,
I reached the driver info from the selections I made on https://install.konnected.io/.
I’m not sure what the experience was to be, but plugging the blaQ in via USB did not seem to be recognized until I installed drivers. This is on Windows 11 Pro. After the drivers I received a DOS- like menu to select a COM port and could access the device.
Hope this helps. I really appreciate the great support.
With the driver installed per chat support instructions my blaQ would not maintain a connection to the pc. Could not select a build. Connection cycled on and off. I solved this problem by returning it. First one worked without issue. Hopefully the replacement will as well. +1 for a reset button or power sequence.
