I have an early blaQ and have not updated the firmware. Although it almost always works with hubitat, homekit and home assistant, I thought I would update the firmware to see if it would get even more reliable.
I don’t seem to have any success. When I got to the connected app (iPhone) on my home network, select my GDO, they settings - settings is blank. Selecting the web page from settings works fine. What is the recommended way to update the firmware?
Anyone have any suggestions?
Hi Mitch,
Yes you definitely should update the firmware, we have made a number of improvements since you installed yours in April.
The simplest way to update the firmware is via the Konnected app > select your device > Settings. There you can customize certain features of the firmware, save, build, and update wirelessly.
I see you’re getting a blank page when you go to Settings. I just checked into that and it’s an error on our side. I think it’s because your device was registered before we had fully rolled-out the firmware configuration service, so some attributes in our database our out-of-sync. To resolve this, please re-register the device in the Konnected app by first tapping Konnected Cloud at the bottom of the page under the Danger Zone heading, then tap Deregister. This won’t affect your device locally, it only resets the metadata that we have stored about your device in our cloud.
After that, go to Settings again and it should ask you to register to get started again, and allow you to proceed with building a firmware update.
Other ways to update the firmware
Home Assistant users (or advanced users) can also self-manage firmware configuration and update via ESPHome’s dashboard tools. Follow the steps here to install ESPHome dashboard in Home Assistant. After that, the GDO blaQ should show up in your ESPHome dashboard and allow you to customize and update the firmware via the ESPHome configuration interface.
Finally, you can update the firmware manually/physically with a USB cable. To do that, go to install.konnected.io in Chrome or Edge browser, plug in the GDO blaQ to your computer, follow the steps to flash the latest firmware.
Hope this helps!
Like Magic. Thanks very much Nate. I got settings after I deregistered/reregistered. I updated the firmware. Although it said the installation failed, when I when back into settings it said it was up-to-date. Where can I find the current firmware version? I am at 1.1.1.1
Thanks, Dave
That is the current version!
