GDO White with external Wireless Sensor

Hi - just got my Smart Garage Door Opener White (v2) delivered and setting it up in Home Assisant. I have also installed ESPHome as I predict this is where I’m heading.

My issue is I already have a wireless sensor that is very accurate, and cameras on the garage door.

I really don’t want to wire a sensor or rely on the beam. I would like to simply use this device to operate with the lights, fancy beeps and trigger a pulse to the roller door. Mine is a momentary contact where each button press cycles through opening, stopping, and reversing the direction.

What settings could I use to keep the nice settings but sort of change the functionality. Is this possible?

Interesting use case! While this is not officially supported, in theory it seems like you could make the GDO White use the external wireless sensor if it is already exposed to Home Assistant with a bit of custom firmware configuration and using the Home Assistant Binary Sensor component of ESPHome.

Essentially you want the GDO White device to import the binary sensor that tells HA that your garage is open or closed, and use that sensor input to determine the state of the garage door cover component which is created by the GDO White.

You can do this by customizing the ESPHome configuration for the GDO White. If you want help with this (for a small fee), let me know!
