Currently, to satisfy UL 325 on unattended operation of GDOs, the GDO BlaQ has a fun customizable chime and small LED light to alert the door is closing. This is a helpful regulatory safety feature.
However, the GDO BlaQ’s LED is quite small (<5W) and is rather dim, especially in the daylight. Luckily, most modern garage door openers have their own lights: ours is a 28W LED (300W equivalent) and is properly bright in all circumstances.
Even luckier, GDO BlaQ can trigger the GDO’s own lights, but currently only manually.
My request: BlaQ could have an optional toggle in the Web UI for door closing events to also trigger the GDO’s own lights, just like MyQ can. Of course, the BlaQ will always trigger its own LEDs for compliance reasons
This feature can be automated by users, but I believe it should be native toggle for and it could be quite beneficial for these reasons:
- It is part of a native safety feature. Users ideally should not need to depend on third-party automation for that.
- This automation is handled best natively by BlaQ: it knows when BlaQ closes the GDO and it controls the GDO’s lights, removing many excess variables.
- It allows users to replicate the MyQ safety standard, thus BlaQ has less friction for users transitioning away from MyQ.
- A single toggle could fit neatly within the Web UI; I’d petition for this toggle to be on by default, but that is Konnected’s choice.
- This feature makes the BlaQ extra-safe without removing any safety (as the built-in LED is always triggered)
