Greetings. I’ve got a blaQ that had been working when I first configured it last year, but I didn’t have the time to fuss with integrating it into HomeAssistant so I set it aside for a while.
Yesterday my partner let me know that the garage door was randomly opening/closing. It isn’t because of the blaQ, because I unplugged the blaq and the issue was persisting. I suspect that maybe an animal got a hold of an opener remote that I lost, and after a couple of hours, the phantom open/closes stopped and AFAIK they haven’t continued.
I was planning to use the status page of my blaQ to monitor for any control signals being sent to the GDO, but right now it doesn’t seem to be communicating at all with the GDO, and when I try to resync, the device reboots, it’s still not working, and the reboot reason says: “Software reset due to exception/panic”. If I just try to restart the blaQ without trying a resync, it says the same thing - doesn’t say that the reboot was manually requested or anyhting.
The phone app says I’m current on 1.4.1 (I believe), the webapp says I’m on ESPHome 2025.3.3. I do have debugging enabled. What information can I provide to diagnose what’s going on with this guy?
Okay, now I’m actually not so sure this wasn’t being caused by my blaQ. I had reconnected the blaQ and then the random opening/closing started happening again a few days ago, and I unplugged the blaQ, and it hasn’t happened since.
Okay, I finally got back to this and manually updated the firmware, I’m on 2026.1.3 now. I’m waiting for it to sync up and then I’ll report back.
One thing that has confused me - I thought my opener was a Security+ 1.0 unit, but I’m not really sure. It’s an 8500C, but it has a square button, not round. I can’t really say what color it is as the color has faded somewhat and I’m R/G colorblind. I seem to remember that before this all went down, I had it working on 1.0, but it hasn’t synced yet on auto or 1.0 or 2.0. I’ve set it back to auto and I’ll just sit on my hands and be patient.
