Is it possible to use Blaq garage door opener with SmartThings without using Konnected cloud? After the myQ debacle, there’s zero chance I’ll buy another product that is dependent on the benevolence of some company to keep their middleman cloud service running for my device to keep working.
Yes, almost.
Our Matter (experimental) firmware will work with SmartThings locally, but it’s not quite ready for prime time yet. You can try the experimental beta and it should work for basic open/close, although the rest of the GDO blaQ features are missing.
We expect Matter to improve over time as the specification matures.
Is the matter firmware able to tell if the door is currently open or closed? Basic open/close is plenty for me, assuming that also includes the current status. And I have no issues with experimental/beta firmware/software.

I realize this is an old thread, but I wanted to revisit. My setup has been changing, I’m now using Home assistant as a control plane, and smartthings has been reduced to basically just radios, and Apple TVs now supplying thread capabilities and siri control. I’ve also seen that matter 1.5 has added support for closures, including garage doors. The article above still suggests Matter doesnt yet support them, and i also see that there is now a new default firmware that is cloud optional, as well as a homekit firmware. I’d be controlling from HA, but exposing to homekit to add siri control. I’d probably be ok with the default firmware now, but since im trying to migrate to mostly thread/matter when possible, i’d lean toward matter if possible.
To get to the point… Has the matter firmware progressed any in the last year to support v1.5 and closures? Is there perhaps a thread edition in the pipeline? I’m tring to avoid wifi for smarthome devices, but im not dead set against it when absolutely necesarry.
