I get a persistent “Closing” report from my 3 Blaq GDO’s after they are opened or closed via the wall remote or remote control.
HK and HA reports the door as “closing” instead of closed, yet in ESPhome the door says “Closed”. If I reopen/close the door again via HK or HA it will clear it up…but annoying nonetheless.
I had a similar problem. I opened the “web page” thru the settings in the Konnected app and hit factory reset. Took about 5-10 minutes, but the device came back up, reconnected and no longer had errors.
I’ve had the same issue, but with the Homebridge plugin (this one) on my Blaq.
I opened the garage door via CarPlay (HomeKit) → HomeKit oddly stated it “closing” (!) even after the door was fully open. I hit the button again and it closed the door.
The factory reset was a real mess, unfortunately. It borked the blaq’s web interface: connected to Wi-Fi, local web page was enabled, local IP, but the web page never loaded again.
The GDO status, via Homebridge → HomeKit, was perpetually “opening.”
What I did next to fix it:
Tried to re-add the device, per support. Nothing, never showed up in the discovery process.
It showed up in the Konnected app with a blue check mark + I directly inputted the IP address, per support: the page never loaded on four different devices.
Well, that’s all you can do via the app. I hope they can make resetting & connecting more resilient in the future.
I then unmounted it from the GDO, flashed it via the neat web interface (somehow still an older firmware, 1.4.0), and then ran another OTA update for the current 1.4.0.3.
At the same time, I upgraded the wall control to a 2024-built 880LMW, as some Konnected folks said older ones made Konnected / smart openers buggy & unreliable.
Reinstalled everything today. Fine so far & hoping the HomeKit bug won’t re-appear.
Native HomeKit may come to the blaq soon™, I’ve learned: that’d be amazing vs waiting for Matter & its quibbles. I’m sadly unsurprised Matter in 2025 still has no GDO device type.
I can’t edit my post, but as a final update, the bug reappeared within hours after my post, but I immediately gave up. It’s just too much hassle.
IMO, I’d do not recommend the GDO Blaq for HomeKit users today, generally speaking. While the forum here is handy for suggestions, GDO Blaq has no official HomeKit support and there is no guarantee native support is coming. Thus, it’s all hacked together with Home Assistant → HomeKit Bridge or Homebridge → a third-party plugin.
Troubleshooting bugs with multiple third-party layers is a PITA, as one might expect.
I moved to Home Assistant as it has native ESPHome support and it works perfectly. Home Assistant also has a Homekit Bridge which brings the openers into HK and it works as if it was native.
Konnected Blaq —> Home Assistant —> ESPHome —> HomeKit
However, that’s the integration that confuses states. When I open/close the garage from Homekit, the app doesn’t know when it’s opened/closed. Can you share more about how you made it work?
Zipityzi, that’s helpful to know. It’s unclear if they’re going to be working on this since they seem to be focused on Matter. It’d be helpful if the Konnected team weighted in on how to make this work / if this is a focus area.
