Alarm Panel Pro v1.8 - Bricked - Unable to reset/flash

I think I have a bricked Alarm Panel Pro, but hoping someone can give me more ideas to try.

I have a slow blue flashing status light and a solid green power light implying it’s a failing network connection. I can see it emitting its own WiFi network but I’m unable to connect to it. The board is noticeably hot on the bottom when plugged in via USB or the barrel jack.

I’ve tried to reflash using both the web tool and esptool in the command line but the problem is I’m unable to get the serial port to show as connected. I’ve tried various different cables that I know are data enabled as well as various different dongles, with no luck. I’ve also tried the quick reflash using a jumper cable between zone one and two, again with no luck. (This is with both the barrel jack and USB plugged in as well as with just the USB).

I’ve run out of options that I can find easily in the documentation or by googling. So hoping I can get an answer here before sadly calling it quits on konnected.

If it feels hot on the bottom, that’s a bad sign. It’s normal for electronics to get a little warm, but if it’s hot enough that it hurts to touch, that’s not right. This would likely be covered under warranty within 1 year.

A flashing blue light means that the chip is still good and is booting. It sounds like maybe an issue with the USB-serial connection.

Please reach out to our support team at help@konnected.io so we can evaluate if this is eligible for a warranty replacement.

I have a similar situation. I was about to flash the device 1 week ago to esphome. Then the device started to get hot (specifically the USB chip, I think). So it still works, I just can not flash it via USB.

I left this sit on the shelf too long so it is not under warranty and they are only offering 10% discount to replace it.

Is there a way to remove the USB chip to keep using it as is?
