I have steam coming out of my ears. I had the wifi board in 2018 or 2019, then updated to the pro. Can’t BELIEVE I was stupid enough to click the “update firmware” button for the first time ever even though it was working perfectly.
Since I’ve done that last night…
Unifi can’t see the device
Konnected App can’t find the device
Hubitat can’t find the device
And of course, I leave for vacation tomorrow morning bright and early.
I cannot and will not rebuild all of my integrations on Hubitat. Have rebooted countless times. If this thing really bricks because I clicked the “upgrade firmware” button simply becuase it won’t go away in the app, I am done with this product for good.
Please help me become positive about this product again and bring it back to life. Any advice is helpful.
POE board connected to router. unifi can’t see it. Have unplugged-replugged. App can’t see it. Stumped. If this isn’t back the way it was about an hour, I’m.done.
update: I’m done, this product has worked great for 5 years, but adios. over and out. Any alternatives anyone uses? open to anything, I won’t pay money for a product that bricks when you update firmware.
First, take a deep breath. I get it’s frustrating but we can recover easily.
Next, go to install.konnected.io on your computer (using Chrome or Edge browser). If you have a laptop bring it near the Konnected panel. Find a data-capable micro-USB cable and plug in your computer to the USB port on the top of the board. Click on the Pro, then click on the “Original Konnected” firmware. Click Connect then choose the port that pops up that would be the Konnected device. It takes 1 or 2 minutes to flash.
You may have to re-connect to Wifi using the Konnected app, tap Add new Device > Connect to Wifi.
After that it should re-join the network. In Hubitat, go to Devices then the Konnected Pro device. Click Save/Done on the zone assignments screen and it’ll re-sync everything and you’re back up and running.
I tried that with 2 different laptops before I posted, nothing, said some form of “installation failed”. also tried hard reset by jumpering 2 ports. tried powering with both 12v and poe. it simply turns on, the blue and green light turn on instantly, the ethernet port is 1 orange and 1 green, and the switch (I tried multiple ports) indicates no connection. Additionally the reboot button does nothing.
The most common/likely reason for the “installation failed” message is that either the USB cable is not a data-capable cable (some are charge-only) or that the correct serial port was not selected. What serial ports show up when you click CONNECT?
Windows or Mac? On Windows you should see the serial port pop up in the taskbar upon plugging it in (if the USB cable is good). On Mac it shows up in System Information > Hardware > USB.
won’t be home to look for anweek; there was only one choice and I seem to remember it saying “com 1” on both laptops I tried it from, no mention of usb, but that was how I connected it.
I think most likely you need to try a different USB cable. Usually on Windows it’ll show up as COM3 or COM4. When you plug it in, the new COM port will pop up in the task bar. If this is not happening, then that means your computer is not detecting the port.
Ended up borrowing a neighbor’s laptop (I don’t have one) as the drivers wouldn’t work on my Windows 8 desktop and my Windows 10 laptop is a work PC that doesn’t let me install drivers; his was Windows 11 and that seemed to work to flash the board. Thanks for the feedback, lesson learned - never.update.firmware.that.already.works!
