I received my new GDO V2 White, installed the ESP Firmware from https://install.konnected.io/ via the serial port, entered Wifi creds successfully and connected to the network.
Next in HA I added the device to via the ESPHome dashboard and clicked the Adopt button. As expected ESP home did the compile dance however at the end ping stopped and never reconnected to the network even after restart. Wifi borked? Rinsed and repeated several times - same result.
How do I fix?
UPDATE - I had a second identical / brand new unit and this time I simply used the IOS app to configure the device initially in order to get it on the wire. Worked as intended and the second unit was also discovered by ESPHome within HA as adoptable. Unfortunately same result as initially flashing it with the web page & serial cable. ESPHome adopts it but then at the end it falls off of the network and never pingable again even after reboot, same as with the first one.
I helped @domenic get to the bottom of this issue the other day. Here’s the solution:
When you adopt a device in ESPHome dashboard, ESPHome will automatically add the WiFi credentials that you have previously saved in ESPHome dashboard to the newly adopted device’s configuration. In @domenic’s case these WiFi credentials were different than the one he wanted to use in the garage.
The solution is to edit or remove the automatically added ESPHome wifi credentials before rebuilding and updating the firmware post-adoption.
Note: this is only for advanced users. Most users will prefer to use the Konnected app to manage their device’s firmware and wifi credentials, and do not need to use ESPHome dashboard.
Same idea / concept with the Alarm Panel Pros. Since they are hard wired you don’t have the wifi config issue but again as Nate said its best to manage using the Konnected App. Problem in my case (GDOs and Alarm Pros) was that I never used the app and simply updated the firmware via the web tool using a cable then HA discovered them taking down that yellow brick road.
