(AU) Merlin GDO BLAQ Compatibilities?

Hi guys,

Device GDO BLAQ
Garage door: Merlin MR885MYQ

Garage door refused to connect to the rolling code and continually reports

13:23:35 [I] [secplus_gdo:032]e[1;31m[gdo_main_task]e[0;32m
Synced: false, protocol: Unknown

13:23:35 [I] [secplus_gdo:046]e[1;31m[gdo_main_task]e[0;32m
Rolling code set to 5584375, retryng sync

I have done quite a bit of troubleshooting and found this topic too Issue thread (GDO blaQ): Australia & New Zealand device compatibility

I can confirm my GDO is updated beyond the firmware mentioned in that thread. Also have Toggle Only enabled.

Device info: garage-door-gdov2-q by konnected
Firmware: 1.3.1 (ESPHome 2024.7.0)

My only thought is perhaps I have the wiring incorrect?

At work at the moment so can update when I get home as to what the wiring is currently plugged into.

Anyone else have this door working with the GDO BLAQ?

The diagram looks like a standard “dry contact” trigger. Are you sure that this Merlin model has Security+ technology? Can you post an actual photo of the garage opener motor and wiring terminals?

Hi Nate,

It is this model here and they state it is Security+ 2.0

You’re right it does say Security+2.0 which is probably in reference to the wireless encryption, but notably absent from this model is a wired serial terminal for a wired smart wall button. It looks like this model uses wireless-only wall button.

Unfortunately, without a wired terminal for the serial connection, the GDO blaQ would not be able to operate the garage opener.

However, this model does have a dry-contact (Normally open) for a traditional wired wall button, so that means our GDO White would certainly work to control this motor.

Apparently the “Security+” trademark really means a couple different things … it refers to the wireless RF encryption that remote control fobs and buttons use to communicate with the garage opener motor, and also separately refers to the wired serial protocol used by the wired digital keypads. To be honest, this is the first I’ve seen of a model that completely lacks a wiring terminal for a wired keypad – these don’t exist in North America!

I’m sorry to share the disappointing news. Our support team would be happy to arrange an exchange for the GDO White if you’d like.

Oh that’s a shame. How frustrating they use the term to cover so many things.

If possible for an exchange that would be amazing. I’ve been eying off your other products. Very exciting to see what you are bringing to the market.

I did purchase this from a local store earlier in the year so I’m not sure if that changes my eligibility. Happy for support to reach out if able.

Thank you for the quick and helpful support.

@nate will the Smart Garage Door Opener White (v2) work on a roller door rather than a tilt up/sectional. I have noticed most of the images on the page feature a sectional/tilt up style with the optical sensor.

Yes, it will work but you may not be able to use the optical sensor to detect if it’s open or closed. You can install a wired contact sensor instead.
