I bought the BlaQ but haven’t installed it yet. I think I’m going to buy a new opener instead of only a new wall button. Most of the new openers use Security+ 3.0 and warn they aren’t compatible with older accessories. Does the BlaQ support 3.0 yet or will it soon?
I’m glad somebody asked this as I have been tracking the Security+3.0 announcements but haven’t gotten my hands on one yet. I didn’t think that the new Security+3.0 models were readily available yet. Perhaps the LiftMaster professional dealers are starting to get them now ahead of the consumer big-box stores like Home Depot and Amazon.
The short answer to your question is – I don’t know, but probably not (yet).
The blaQ works by emulating the data signals of a Security+2.0 wall button. Basically it pretends to be one of the 88X model wall buttons (880LMW, 889LM, 882LMW) to control the Security+ 1.0/2.0 opener.
I found this compatibility chart from LiftMaster that suggests that the new Security+3.0 openers have a new line of wall buttons to go with them:
LM-access-comp-chart.pdf (5.0 MB)
So I suspect that if the opener is not compatible with the 880LMW/882LMW, then it will not be compatible with the blaQ.
I’m sure that the folks at Chamberlain/LiftMaster and myQ are not too thrilled about 3rd-party devices like ours emulating their comms protocol, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they made some changes in Security+3.0 to make this a lot harder to do.
We will see. When there’s a will there’s a way.
It’ll take some time though. Maybe grab a new Security+2.0 opener now while you still can.
Thank you for the explanation. I’ll try to get a Security+ 2.0 opener before they sell out.

RATGDO, nor any other control system will work with Sec 3.0 at this time. In fact Sec 3.0 does not use wireline control at all. The 2 wires are for power only. The communication is done via Bluetooth, which makes all wired controls incompatible regardless of firmware updates.
This was obviously intentional.
In addition, the new Sec+ 3.0 openers will check with Chamberlain’s servers to see if the Bluetooth device you’re attempting to pair with your opener is one they manufactured, and they are also checking for clones as well as geographic location.
In short, they have gone to great lengths to make sure their customers will never be able to use 3rd party controls.
BIG F-U to Chamberlain because F that checking in with their servers, hard hard hard pass.
@nate I would start including big big warning signs on your website for the blaQ about Security+ 3.0 openers, and encouraging anyone considering buying a new garage door opener, to avoid anything S+ 3.0 like the plague.
F that. Just wow….. Louis Rossmann is going to have a field day over this.
Thanks for posting that @Benji
Yeah the 3.0 openers are starting to come out and I’m seeing a lot more about them online very recently. It seems that Chamberlain/LiftMaster have been quietly working to make it much more difficult for 3rd-party integration outside of their pay-walled garden.
The difficulty is that Lowe’s and Home Depot usually don’t list the Security+ version on the product page. Chamberlain’s website doesn’t list the Security+ version on their info page for newer GDOs. It appears they are trying to hide that information so people cannot make informed decisions.
Is there a list of known compatible GDO model numbers anywhere on this website?
The information is out there, you just have to look for it. For LiftMaster brands, the most concise info on model numbers can be found on that comparison chart that I posted above:
LiftMaster are generally only available through garage door installers and professionals, and Chamberlain are the consumer brand available in retail stores like Home Depot, Lowes and Amazon.
For Chamberlain brand, the details are on the Chamberlain website, just click on the Specs tab and there it shows the Security+ version and the learn button color.
Yellow (round) learn button means Security+2.0 and is what you should be looking for for the best compatibility with the GDO blaQ. The newer Security+3.0 have a white (round) learn button.
I recently brought b3010 garage door opener from hope depot. It had a white round button. Does this mean it’s using security 3.0? Is this supported through Smart Garage Door Opener White (v2)?
Yes that sounds like a Security+3.0 new model. Unfortunately no 3rd party controllers will work with these. This is an intentional move by Chamberlain/LM to lock you in to myQ.
