Feasibility - upgrade of a 30yrs old texecom alarm system

Hi. I got the recommendation from reddit.

In 2015, we bought a house that was 20 years old at the time and already had an alarm system:

  • motion detectors in the basement and ground floor
  • contacts / detectors on all windows and doors on the ground floor - when we moved in and renovation to move in, we laid everything flush-mounted. At the moment we have defined 6 zones as far as I recall.
  • 2 Keypads (Texcom Premiere LCD) on the ground floor at the entrance and on the second floor to arm the system when going to bed or leaving the house and
switching off the system when entering or getting up in the morning
  • a telephone module in the cellar for calling a security service, which, due to the lack of a working telephone line, we only tested using a VoIP box
but do not use it permanently

Apart from the lack of telephone functionality, the system works very well. Everything is wired momentarily and offline. The last battery replacement (apparently the battery has to be replaced every 5 to 10 years) was very expensive.

Now we would like to upgrade the existing system, at least WiFi / 4G functionality, so that we or a service yet to be defined is informed when the system goes off. Home integration / Home Assistant would of course be excellent - then all WiFi cameras placed around the house could be activated - and I could use the motion trackers for other automations.
4G would be a plus in case a burglar gets the idea to cut the power, then WiFi would be off. But as I am now deep into Home Assistant, I guess this would be sufficient.

So my questions:

  • would konnected an option to upgrade or replace the system?
  • what would be the steps to install it - although I am quite interested, I am for sure an amateur regarding alarm systems?
  • would it be possilbe to use both home automation and the existing panels - or only one or another?

I can upload some fotos tomorrow - the keypad looks like this:

Thank you for any advice, any recommendation is highly appreciated.
Best regards
Michael

Looks like this.

Hi @webwude, welcome to the Konnected community.

Yes, this looks like a perfect retrofit for Konnected. The installation involves identifying each of the wired zones at the old panel, and then moving them over one by one to the Konnected panel. It may look daunting, but it’s pretty simple once you wrap your head around how the system works. Watch our Youtube videos for step-by-step.

Our Alarm Panel Pro looks like a perfect solution here for integration and control with Home Assistant. if you want to keep the existing panel and keypads, you can do that too with our Alarm Panel Pro Interface kit. The installation with the interface kit is quite a bit more complicated, so most people in your situation opt for replacing the old system and modernizing it with Konnected and Home Assistant (or your smart home platform of choice).

Thx for your answer, I will check the YouTube videos.

Keeping the old system is definitely an option, are there any detailed resources as well - and might there be support available just in case?
Would there be an option to send detailed fotos and get some step by step instructions?

Meanwhile I have to check where I can get your products here in Austria.

Best regards
Michael
