Could someone please help me with wiring and programming an Aritech CS575 to use it with the pro interface kit?

Hello,

I have ordered an alarm panel pro interface kit for my old GE Security/Aritech CS575.

The basic wiring should be no problem but I need help concerning the programmable output for the monitoring function and with the programming of a keyswitch to control the system remotely.

Here is a picture of my old mainboard.

Here are links to the installers manual

and the programming manual

There is a free zone (z7) which I could probably use for the keyswitch function.
And at “out4” there is an orange wire that seems so be open ended so the output should be available to use for the monitoring. The system has got 4 programmable outputs (auxiliary outputs).

There is no installer around I could ask because the system is about 15 years old and nobody provides service for it anymore.

I would be very glad if you could have a look into the manuals and help me.

Thank you very much in advance.

Kind regards

Alex

Hello Alex - I recently did use Pro panel with interlogix system 7-8 yrs old but yours is older, but I can help as you are using Pro Interface panel.
I am assuming that you would want your interface to work with Smart Things. If you have not completed the set up yet then we can work thru it. It will take 3-4 days (just from my experience). We’ll go step by step.
First - I would suggest connect all the zones wiring because we dont need to touch existing board or We can look at programming, keyswitch, and remote arming, disarming later.
Once you have connected the zones, assigned them in konnected app flashed the board and are able to see which door etc is closed/open in connected app, we can move forward.
Second - Now, we’ll come to connecting Konnected interface to see when your old security system is armed/unarmed and triggered. This is done via your AUX outputs (I did the same, I did not have to use free zone to do it as suggested by Konnected support becasue for that i’ll have to combine zones or move zones completely to Konnected board). You will need to use 2 of 4 aux outputs available to you for this. Now the tricky part - for this in Konnected app I had to say ‘inverted’ zone. I hope you get it or we can connect. I connected 2 aux outputs to free zones on one of interface board (because I had pro panel interface which came with 2 interface boards). One will give signal for whether your traditional system is armed or not and other one will give signal to know if system is triggered/Siren is ON. This is where I had to do programming for the first time. I am leaving that part for now as we have different old boards.
Third - Once everthing above is complete and functioning then we move to Keyswitch programming, its easy but you will need to just find word ‘Keyswitch’ in your control panel programming manual. If it supports (Keyswitch programming) we’ll figure it out.
Fourth - Which we could have done earlier but I did it in the end - was connecting Siren to Konnected system. You may not need it if you are only remotely arming and disarming the system or trying to see if Siren is triggered. This connection is needed only if you have extra zones directly (not on your traditional security system) on Konnected Pro panel OR want to trigger SIREN remotely (like push a button on phone and Siren goes off at home).

I’ll wait for your response on where you are in process and provide details where I can.
Best of luck

Checked the manual you attached.

You can use Keyswitch setting -
**From Manual: **

Keyswitch - A zone type that can be used to arm or disarm a partition using a switch connected to a zone instead of a code. Both pulsed and maintained keyswitches can be used.

And You can use this config. This is what I used and works everyday.

From manual:
Pulsed Keyswitch A zone characteristic that allows a zone input to be used with a momentary keyswitch. Each activation of the keyswitch toggles the armed state of the control.

I want to mention that I can arm my system in away mode when using Smart Things (using Keyswitch funationality) but not home mode (I can really but then its governed by Smartthings app not your home security system). To use home mode (and have old security system control everything) I use old Wall panel at home - In both scenarios you will get to know everything on your phone. This can be confusing but I can explain when we connect.

Simple way to understand is that when Konnected system sends a pulse to your old security system, it sends a pulse which ARMS or DISARMS the old board/security system. But signal does not say ‘Home or away mode arming’. To arm in home mode either you use wall control panel at home OR use Smartthings app but in Smartthings case your Smartthings app is communicating with your Konnected panel interface kit and asking Konnected kit to keep monitoring your old board and let Smarthings know if some door opens or motion is sensed. Once something like this happens your Smarthings app sends a signal to your old board that Sound the Siren as something happened.
But if you arm using old wall plate in Home mode then your old system gets triggered if something happens in zones which are activated on HOME mode. No issues doing this because you can still disarm the system using your phone/Smarthings and also see if system armed or triggered/Siren on.

This issue is Old systems are armed by Konnected panel using pulses which only does ARM or DISARM but not what kind (HOME or AWAY). There might be a way and I may be wrong but setting up this system took me few hours (trust me) and few days so I was done DONE. Anyway old systems are not smart and we are not communicating with them using API’s etc, we are just using electrical pulses so I believe its either full on AWAY mode ARM or DISARM (which takes care of any kind of ARMing previously activated)

Hello, wow, thank you very much for your time and effort. I think I will probably be able to get most of the wiring and programming done but there are still some questions left.

I am using home assistant. I want to combine the alarmo integration and wireless sensors with the wired sensors and sirens of the old alarm system.

So I can also use these motion sensors for light automations for example.

I do not need to have seperate modes for home and away with my old alarm system because there are mainly indoor motion sensors attached to it.

I can build an armed home function in home assistant by activating only other sensors.

I do not know if I can wire the siren output of the alarm panel pro directly to the siren output of the old alarm system.

I would prefer the method described in the other thread if this is possible.

Thanks and kind regards

Alex

For: do not know if I can wire the siren output of the alarm panel pro directly to the siren output of the old alarm system.

Yes, you can connect to BELL / Alarm zone/connections, it will work. Just make sure you are NOT connecting Konnect system to anything AC current. My panel has Bell+ Bell - where alarm is connected.

You can connect door / motion sensors to Konnected and not wireless. I guess you already know that.

FYI - I dont know about Home assistant but it must be similar to Smart Things in functionality. Both of them connect to Konnected. if something does not work and you are logically sure that it should then ‘Invert’ the zone setting on Konnected (this worked for me when using AUX programmable outputs after struggling for an hour  ). Get your Konnected system working first and then go to things where you need Home assistant. And keep using bypass feature of old system until you are last programming step. While doing programming keep making video / photos while you are changing stuff in there. It saved me major MAJOR headache.

For:
And keep using bypass feature of old system until you are last programming step.

I am not sure what you mean.

I want to keep the functionality of the old system and just want to use konnected and home assistant to extend the possibilities.

I suggest you have a look at home assistant, it could be a gamechanger for you, too.

Kind regards

Alex

You dont need to change any programming unless you are removing any zone or giving input to a zone which is different to what its set to accept now. I had to do that for 2 things: 1. Remove a zone and move completely to Konnected and also to Program Keyswitch to a zone. System now works perfectly.

forgot one thing: Length of trigger for any momentary switch feature you are planning to use . 1500 ms is what worked for me. less or more did not work. I guess depends on old board. I used this for Keyswitch.

Hello again,

I need some help with the monitoring of the armed state:

I connected R3C of the CS575 to Aux+ and R3NO to a zone input of the Konnected Interface Module. I programmed the programmable output of the CS575 so that the relay closes when the system is disarmed. In this state, R3NO has 12V; otherwise, it has 0.4V. However, the input of the Interface Module does not respond to the different switching states of the relay, even though I have adjusted the LED on the input so that it is just turning on. The behavior does not change even when I invert the programmable output.

What could be the reason that the input does not recognize when the system is armed or disarmed?

Thanks and kind regards

Alex
