Blaq -> HomeAssistant -> HomeKit bridge exposing cover as shade

In my previous deployment I had no issues with the Garage Door integration from Home Assistant showing up in Homekit as a Garage Door. This enabled the CarPlay proximity enablement of the gargae door on my Carplay deployment. On changing to the Blaq, the device is coming over to HomeKit as a shade, and thus not enabled for CarPlay. Has anyone seen anything similar to this? I removed the virtual HomeKit bridge and enabled a new one, yet the same results. Thanks for any insight or feedback from others having the same issue.

I MAY have found the fix for my situation. I removed the HomeAssistant HomeKit Bridge, edited the entity for the GDO Blaq in HomeAssistant to specify “Show As” as a Garage Door, and recreated the Bridge. Upon inclusion it is now seen as a Garage Door vs Shade. Off for a car ride to see if this worked:-)

I just ran into the same thing, changed from the white GDO to the BlaQ, the white always showed up as a garage door but the BlaQ was showing as a shade and so wouldn’t show up automatically in Car Play and I also noticed that when I switched it to “Show as Garage Door” it automatically changed to notify on open/close in HomeKit so I’m guessing it will work. Haven’t been out to the car to test it yet. I tested today and it shows up automatically in CarPlay after changing the show as to garage door.

Awesome, this was EXACTLY what I was looking for, as I had the EXACT same issue.

In trying to troubleshoot it, I suspected it was because the entity was not set with a ‘device class’ of “garage”. Changing the “Show As” to Garage Door sets this class on the entity:

Also note that I didn’t have to delete the HomeKit bridge, it just automagically updated all the way through to the Apple Home app, and now works perfectly as expected!
