Longtime user…been running 3 Add-On Boards and 1 Add-On +Siren board for a few years. All firmware updates were completed on these V1 boards.
Recently I reflashed my Hassio Raspberry Pi 3 install due to their deprecation of 32bit OS systems. Hassio is back up and running fine. However, I am no longer able to get the Konnected boards to connect to Wifi. I have tried everything I can think of. Powering down each board, attempting to connect one at a time using the Konnected app. Sometimes it finds them and looks like it’s connecting to Wifi but the blue lights keep blinking. I’ve also powered own my entire network and Hassio, attempted to connect the Add-On boards to Wifi, same story.
As all 4 boards disconnected at the exact same time (when I upgraded Hassio) I don’t believe this is a hardware failure.
Any suggestions? Replacing this system would cost upwards of $350 at current prices. Thanks.
Updating your Home Assistant raspberry pi wouldn’t have anything to do with the devices connecting to WiFi. More likely is that they’re connecting to WiFi, then trying to connect to the IP/hostname of your old Home Assistant instance, can’t find it, and then reboots.
These look like our first generation boards, so I assume you are running our original firmware.
Since you’re rebuilding your Home Assistant, now might be a good time to update the firmware on each board to our newer ESPHome platform, which works seamlessly and natively with Home Assistant. You can do that by re-flashing them at install.konnected.io and choose the Made for ESPHome (recommended) firmware.
These v1 boards are simple to update because you can just power them down, pull out the WiFi module, flash it at your computer, and then pop it back in without touching the wiring.
Thanks Nate. Can you reflash the boards while the WiFi module is still connected to the base? I have updated the firmware multiple times over the years. I just tried using install.konnected.io to connect to one of the boards. It connects and I’m even able to get to the console and “reset” the device. It then shows “Connecting to Wifi” and remains there. If I attempt to “Install Konnected” on the board it sits on “Installing - Preparing Installation” and doesn’t move. It’s been preparing for the last 10 minutes now.
Yes, you can flash it while connected, except on these 6-zone devices, Zone 6 needs to be open. Weird, I know, but Zone 6 is in some way tied to the USB receive function and it will not receive the flash if zone 6 is closed.
Three ways to solve this:
remove the WiFi module to flash it
open the door/window that is connected to zone 6 and leave it open during flashing
Done. I removed all the modules and was able to update them to ESPHome. I then used the app and connected each to Wifi. The blue lights are still blinking but the app sees the units now.
In Hassio, it sees the units but will not connect to them. It installed the ESPHome system but every time I try to ADD the 4 devices I get “Failed to Connect”.
Okay, so it takes a while for Hassio to see the new hardware. They are installed now and working with ESPHome. I have more config to do but I think I am good now. Thanks.
