GDO blaQ - Reboots / Lost Packets

I’ve had a blaQ for quite awhile. It is integrated with Home Assistant using ESP. I have an ongoing problem with this device where it will randomly reset. This results in an erroneous door open / door closed set of messages.

In addition, I have ongoing monitoring on this device using simple ping commands. I repeatedly get lost packets and VERY high ping times. The average is 165.84ms with a max of 972ms. I set the lost packets at 5%.

I have two other devices on the same WAP that do not exhibit packet loss or very-high ping latency. (They are also smart devices, so they’re not stellar…about a quarter of the blaQ’s.) A laptop connected to the same WAP has ~11ms response time, and an EVSE has ~13ms average.

A bit lost as to what to do here. The interface shows the ESPHome version as 2025.6.2, and the Project Version as 1.4.1. I have looked at other threads about the reboot issue, but that seems to have been limited to early versions of the firmware, and spotty network issues.

The most common cause of this is scheduled reboots – the device will reboot every 15 minutes if the Native Local API is enabled but no native API client (i.e. Home Assistant, Hubitat) is connected. If you are not using a native local smart home hub with the blaQ, disable the Local Native API in the firmware settings to resolve.

Out of the blue, I will occasionally start getting door opened messages over and over. I also noticed the blaq device keeps rebooting. After a while, it seems to go back to normal.

I have an integration with Home Assistant, and the device doesn’t reboot every 15 minutes. So, it doesn’t seem the API is the issue. In addition, that would only explain the reboot issue, not the network issues.

My reboots also happen out of the blue. When the problem begins it’s frequent and then seems to ‘correct’ itself after a period of time.

Curiously, when I just updated the firmware the ping times literally dropped in half.
