I have 2 Konnected boards a 6 zone alarm panel and a 6 zone add on panel. My home assistant instance is on the 192.168.1.x range, and my alarm panels are on the 192.168.4.x range.
My wifi network consists of 6 omada access points 1 in my study, a few around the house, and one in an outbuilding about 1m from the konnected board location.
I setup the first konnected board in my study and tested some components and all worked fine, I then moved it out to the out building and installed it, however it would only retain its wifi for about 2 minutes and update home assistant, then home assistant stops updating and the blue light starts to flash. In the end I decided to try the second 6 zone board, this has been powered on in my study for weeks with a solid connection to home assistant, i took that down to the outbuilding and plugged it in with the exact same results, works for about 2 minutes before dropping off the network. I then decided to reinstall the firmware in case it doesnt like to roam, selecting the strongest wifi signal from the list in the out building with the same results. I bought the initial board back up to the house and plugged it in in my office again and it now has a solid stable connection. I know a first thought would be a network issues of some sort, but i tried pinging various things from my laptop connected to the same access point and had zero issues, could ping and connect to home assistant with no trouble whatsoever. its really driving me bananas as I’ve had them for weeks now without being able to use them. over time it will reconnect and disconnect from the network but mostly its a disconnected state. the only thing i can see in the logs is
[16:43:34][W][api.connection:130]: Home Assistant 2025.2.5 (192.168.1.73) didn’t respond to ping request in time. Disconnecting…
but i can see from my tests that certainly ping is working fine to HA from that access point. any suggestions
Well ive done some more testing today, I use TP-link Omada hardware in my home, the Study/Office AP is a TPLink EAP670(EU) v2.0 this is connected directly to an Omada managed switch and the connection works flawlessly.
In the outbuilding, ive tried two access points, an EAP225 V3 and an EAP225 V3 outdoor. Both of these can not hold the connection to the Konnected alarm panel more than about 20 seconds, as ive swapped APs I assumed the issue was with the configuration of the network, the outbuilding has its own managed switch and routes via a third managed switch back to the main Omada switch, so today i have routed the AP directly into the main omada switch and removed the 2 managed switches that used to route the traffic, so basically both the access point in the outbulding and the access point in the study are directly plugged into the same switch and the ports on the swich are all configured identically, I’ve removed all POE injectors and any other hardware that could have been causing some kind of fault, however the problem persists, So my only two remaining theories are, there is some kind of incompatibility between the ESP32 chip in the konnected and the EAP 225 or maybe there is a wiring issue, although via my laptop i can get a full speed speed test using that AP.
Is anyone aware of any incompatibilities between any wireless access points? Ive rebooted them countless time, ensured they are setup identically in terms of features and services to the working AP in my study, the SSID is limited to only 2.5ghz. the system isnt a mesh but it does have roaming support between AP’s but the Konnected is so far away from any other AP’s that it cant connect them so It cant try to roam.
well im fairly convinced now that the issues is the TP Link 225, ive just moved the konnected board to another area of the house, this has an EAP 225 v5 also plugged directly into the switch, about 3m away from where I plugged the board in, the board, connected for a moment, lost its connection and then connected again but this time to the (we already know its working) EAP670 which is about 20m away through two very thick brick walls. So either the Konnected does not like something about the EAP225 or the EAP225 doesnt like something about the connected. Cant find anything obvious online and I also cant afford to upgrade all MY AP’s so im just going to have to keep messing about to see if I can get it connected.
Finally managed to get the devices connected with s support from tp-link Omada. EAP225(EU) Unable to connect to ESP8266 Wifi Chip or connection is intermittent - Business Community for the thread on their help forum, essentially turning off ARP to multicast and ipv4 and ipv6 to multicast features on the SSID allows the connection to work as it should on this AP. As yet no explanation as to why these features break the WiFi connection, but should anyone else have this issue with a similar device or WiFi chip, hopefully this helps. Thanks
